This announcement was an attempt to counteract the losses caused by the Codex-19 epidemic. The 21st-day lockout was expected to cost the Indian economy around 9 lakh crores. Funds worth Rs 31,000 crore will also be available to increase medical testing and protect and provide better health for those financially affected by the Covid-19 intervention.

The division of labor in MNREGA is done by Gram Panchayat. The gram panchayat will determine if the candidate is suitable for the current project. If the General Practitioner is unable to find suitable work for the post, the Program Manager will be required to provide work by the assignment made by the Gram Sabhas. If the Program Officer has assigned work, the Gram Panchayat should be informed. The Program Officer and the Gram Panchayat are responsible for ensuring that the work is assigned to all applicants within fifteen days of receipt of the application.
MGNREGA: Unemployment Allowance
The applicant is provided with daily unemployment benefits unless the job has been vacated within fifteen days of applying. According to Article 7 of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the unemployment benefit payable will be less than ¼ of the salary for the first 39 days. It may not be less than half the rate of pay for the remainder of the financial year.
