Prime Minister’s Relief Fund:

 
. In January 1948, the then Prime Minister Pt. Following an appeal by Jawaharlal Nehru, the Prime Minister’s National Aid Fund (PMNRF) was set up as a public donation to help the displaced people in Pakistan.
 
  The PMNRF was not constituted by parliament.This fund is recognized as a trust under the Income Tax Act and is administered by the Prime Minister or several members of the National Intelligence Service. PMNRF operates from the Prime Minister’s Office, South Block, New Delhi-110011 and pays no licensing fees. The PMNRF is exempt under the Income Tax Act of 1961 under sections 10 and 139 for reporting purposes.

Contributions to PMNRF are announced to be 100% deductible from taxable income in accordance with Section 80 (G) of the Income Tax Act of 1961. The Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund accepts voluntary grants/contributions from individuals, organizations, institutions, trusts and companies.
 

Objectives of the PM RELIEF FUND

 
Initiating and assisting in any kind of emergency aid or assistance in connection with an artificial or natural public health emergency or any other type of emergency, disaster or emergency, including the establishment of modernization of medical or pharmaceutical facilities, other necessary infrastructure and related research resources.
To provide grants or cash payments to provide financial assistance or other measures that the Board of Directors may deem necessary for the affected population.
At present, assistance is provided to the public through the PM Relief Fund in the following areas:…..
• Waterfall (deluge)
• External
• Rail accident
• Storm
• Cyclone
• Agni Kanda
• Bus accident
• Earthquake
• Any medical emergency
During the COVID-19 emergency in the last 2 years, this fund has helped a lot in providing better facilities to the patients. Simultaneously, during the Covid emergency in 2020, another PM Cares Fund was established so that more help could be obtained from the Indian citizens.
 

Member of Prime Minister's Relief Fund

 
The Prime Minister is the head of the Prime Minist8er’s National Relief Fund, and the officers/employees assist it in its operation on an unpaid basis. Contributions to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund are notified for full exemption from taxable income. Other members are Tata Trusts, Finance Minister, FICCI Representatives, President of Congress etc.
The minimum amount that can be donated to the Prime Minister’s National Aid Fund (PMNRF) is 100 Rs.

Some important things about the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund…

 
• The Prime Minister’s National Aid Fund consists exclusively of public contributions and receives no budget support.
• The Prime Minister’s National Aid Fund receives voluntary grants/contributions from individuals, organizations, institutions, trusts and companies. Aud.
• All grants/contributions to the Prime Minister’s National Aid Fund are exempt from income tax in accordance with section 80 (g) income tax. Exempted from less.
