World Cancer Day 2022: History

The inaugural World Summit against Cancer, held in Paris in 2000, gave birth to World Cancer Day. Several heads of state and cancer organizations from around the world signed the Paris against Cancer Charter during this summit. It was a ten-article document that articulated a collaborative global commitment to enhancing cancer patients' quality of life and continuing to engage in and develop cancer research, prevention, and treatment. The charter's Article X established February 4 to be World Cancer Day.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), if cancer incidence continues to rise at its current rate, the number of cancer deaths worldwide would reach more than 16.3 million by 2040. According to the World Health Organization, 40 percent of cancer deaths can be avoided.
The University of Illinois at Chicago was founded in 1993. Its headquarters are in Geneva. It is a membership-based organization that helps in medical research and cares for cancer patients all around the world. Knowing this history will help you to know its value and celebrate World Cancer Day 2022 with your full heart.

World Cancer Day 2022: Theme

'Close the Care Gap' is the World Cancer Day 2022 Theme. Even after World Cancer Day, the initiative's principal goal is to stimulate reform and inspire action. We can achieve what we all want: a healthier, brighter world free of cancer if we choose to work together.
Why World Cancer Day is Celebrated?

Every year on February 4th, World Cancer Day is commemorated. The UICC's mission is to promote the World Cancer Declaration. The main goal of commemorating this day is to minimize the number of cancer patients and the death rate caused by it.
Simultaneously, raise public awareness of how to recognize cancer symptoms, educate individuals, and prepare government and non-governmental organizations to assist in the global fight against this fatal disease.

Not only that, but the goal of World Cancer Day is to dispel cancer myths and assist people in receiving accurate information about the disease. There are various misconceptions about cancer and how people react to it. Patients are untouchable; they believe that if individuals live with cancer patients, they will have cancer themselves. This day is commemorated in order to dispel such social illusions. As a result, people must be aware of how and what type of treating cancer patients receive. Cancer patients have the right to live normal lives, and they must have self-respect and a normal atmosphere in their homes and communities.

How is World Cancer Day is Celebrated?

Hundreds of activities and events take place every year around the world, bringing communities, organizations, and individuals together in schools, businesses, hospitals, marketplaces, parks, community halls, and places of worship — on the streets and online — as a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in reducing cancer's global impact.

About Cancer:

Cancer is a condition in which some cells in the body grow out of control and spread to other parts of the body.
Cancer can begin practically anywhere in the trillions of cells that make up the human body. Human cells normally expand and multiply (via a process known as cell division) to generate new cells as needed by the body. Cells die as they become old or injured, and new cells replace them.

This ordered process can sometimes break down, resulting in aberrant or damaged cells growing and multiplying when they shouldn't. Tumors, which are masses of tissue, can grow from these cells. Tumors may or may not be cancerous (benign).

Cancerous tumors can invade or expand into neighboring tissues and move to distant locations in the body. Malignant tumors are another name for cancerous tumors. Many malignancies, including leukemias, create solid tumors, whereas cancers of the blood do not.
Causes of Cancer:

There are many distinct types of cancer, and the causes of cancer vary as well. If you are taking medications for a serious condition, you may develop cancer as a result of the medications' adverse effects, but there are other reasons as well, such as:
  • Tobacco and Smoking
  • Physical Activity and Diet
  • Radiation from the Sun and Other Sources
  • Other Infections and Viruses

Symptoms of Cancer:

  • A scratchy throat
  • Coughing on a regular basic
  • Difficulty swallowing while eating
  • Any form of an uncontrollable lump in the body
  • Water or blood flowing from any region of the body
  • Moles' growth accelerates and their color changes.
  • There will be no long-term recovery from any wound.
  • Anorexia nervosa
  • Rapid weight loss or gain for no apparent reason
  • Consistent feelings of exhaustion or sloth
  • Difficulty or pain in urination, and so on.

Treatment of Cancer:

  • Biomarker Testing for Cancer Treatment
  • Chemotherapy
  • Hormone Therapy
  • Hyperthermia
  • Immunotherapy
  • Photodynamic Therapy
  • Stem Cell Transplant
  • Surgery
  • Targeted Therapy
It is fair to state that awareness is the most significant factor in avoiding a major illness like cancer and that a good lifestyle and diet are equally vital in preventing cancer. So, now you know what World Cancer Day is, when and how it is observed, and what the subject of World Cancer Day in 2022 is.
