Cyanobacteria are prokaryotic oxygenic phototrophs that contain a green pigment called chlorophyll and a blue photosynthetic pigment called phycobilins. Prokaryotic means they don't have a membrane-bound nucleus, mitochondria or other type of membrane-bound organelle
