Newton's first law states that if a body is at rest or moving at a constant speed in a straight line, it will remain at rest or keep moving in a straight line at constant speed unless it is acted upon by a force.Place a ball in a box and slowly push the box. Abruptly stop the box. The ball will keep moving. According to Newton's first law, an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced outside force, so the ball keeps rolling even though the box has stopped.
