NICHOLAS COPERNICUS: THE FATHER OF MODERN ASTRONOMY 1543-1943.Vainu Bappu – who went on to be fondly remembered as the “father of modern Indian astronomy”. Manali Kallat Vainu Bappu was born on 10 August 1927 in Hyderabad. His father Manali Kukuzhi Bappu and mother Sunanna both hailed from Kerala.
