The Ashtadhyayi is an ancient Indian text, dating somewhere from the 5th-4th centuries BCE, and is the oldest existing book on Sanskrit grammar. The Ashtadhyayi was extremely influential and is one reason that Sanskrit remained the main literary language of India for as long as it did.
