A typical dicotyledonous embryo has one embryonic axis and two cotyledons. The part of the embryonic axis above the level of cotyledons is the epicotyl which ends with the plumule. The cylindrical portion below the level of cotyledons is hypocotyl which terminates at its lower end in the radicle. Reserve food material is sometimes stored as endosperm. Thus, dicot embryo consists of radicle, plumule, cotyledon and sometimes endosperm.
