Why does absorption of digested food occur mainly in the small intestine?

Maximum absorption occurs in small intestine because The process of digestion gets completed in the small intestine by intestinal juice. Finger-like projections called villi provide larger surface area for absorption. The villi are richly supplied with blood vessels to enable easy absorption into the bloodstream.
