The mouth plays an important role in digestion because The teeth present in the mouth crush the food into small pieces. Tongue helps in thorough mixing of food with saliva and to swallow the food. Saliva secreted in mouth contains an enzyme called salivary amylase which helps to break down the starch into maltose.
