The energy in the form of ATP is required both during loading of sucrose in the sieve tubes at the leaf surface and during uploading of the sucrose at the site which needs sucrose for its metabolic activities. So, it can be said that transport of food in plants require living tissues i.e., phloem and energy in the form of ATP
