Alluvial soils are formed by the deposition by three important Himalayan river systems – The Indus, the Ganga and the Brahmaputra. The Bangar is the old alluvial soil. It is less fertile because it has higher concentration of kankar nodules. The Khadar is the new alluvial soil. It has more fine particles and is more fertile than the bangar.
