Give a brief description of the maize crop in India.
Maize is used both as food and fodder. It is a kharif crop. It requires temperature between 21 °C to 27 °C. It grows well in old alluvial soil. In Bihar, it is also grown in rabi season also. Use of HYV (High Yielding Variety) seeds, fertilisers and irrigation have increased its production. The maize producing states are Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
