Jute is known as the ‘golden fibre’. Geographical conditions essential for the cultivation of jute are as mentioned below : Soil : It requires well-drained fertile soils in the flood plains where soils are renewed every year. Temperature : High temperature is needed during the time of growth. Jute producing states : West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Orissa and Meghalaya. Uses of Jute : It is used in making gunny bags, mats, ropes, yarn, carpets and other artefact’s. However, due to its high cost it is loosing market to synthetic fibres and packing materials, particularly the nylon.
