Describe the uses of manganese. Where is it found in India ?
(1) Uses : Manganese is mainly used in the manufacturing of steel and ferro-manganese alloy. 10 kg of manganese is used to manufacture, one tonne of steel. It is also used in manufacturing bleaching powder, insecticides and paints. (2) Orissa is the largest producer of manganese ores. It produced one-third of the country’s total production in 2000-01. Karnataka produces 15%, Madhya Pradesh 22% and other states produce 30% manganese in the country.
