The Geoid shape is not perfectly spherical. The resulting shape of the Earth is due to the centrifugal force of its rotation. The Earth experiences the greatest centrifugal force at the equator and least at the poles, therefore it bulges out at the Equator giving the resultant oblate ellipsoid shape.
