The king of England Charles II got Bombay as dowry for marrying Catherine in 1661 AD. According to the marriage treaty of Charles II of England and Catherine of Braganza, daughter of King John IV of Portugal on 21 May 1662, placed Bombay in possession of the British Empire. Currently, Bombay is the capital city of Maharashtra. It is also known as the financial capital of India.
