why did Douglas mother recommend that he should learn swimming at the YMCA swimming pool??
When Douglas decided to learn to swim, he chose the YMCA pool because the Yakima River was too dangerous. The pool, on the other hand, was only 2-3 feet deep at the shallow end and had a gradual drop at the deep end. So for him, the perfect place to learn to swim with the help of an armband.
