why did Gandhi agree to a settlement of 25% refund to the farmers? how did it fluently the peasant landlord relationship in Champaran??
He wanted poor peasants to understand that they too had rights and did not have to live in fear of English landlords. As such, he initially expressed his 50% return, but later agreed to settle with his 25% return to the farmer.
