The cathode rays possess the following properties: Travel in straight lines perpendicular to the surface of the cathode. Consists of material particles. Have got the heating effect. Consists of negatively charged particles. Produce X-rays when they strike against hard metals like copper, tungsten, platinum, etc. Produce fluorescence when they strike glass or certain other materials like zinc sulfide. Penetrate through thin aluminum foils and other metals. Affect the photographic plates
