How many classes are enzymes divided into? Name all the classes.
Enzymes are divided into 6 classes. Namely Oxidoreductases/dehydrogenases: Enzymes which catalyze oxidoreduction between two substrates Transferases: Enzymes catalyzing a transfer of group between a pair of substrates. Hydrolases: Enzymes catalyzing the hydrolysis of ester, ether, peptide, glycosidic, C-C-C-halide or P.N bonds. Lyases: Enzymes catalyze the removal of groups from – substrates by mechanisms other than hydrolysis leaving double bonds. Lyases: Enzymes catalyzing the interconversion of optical geometric or positional isomers. Ligases: Enzymes catalyzing the linking together of 2 compounds.
