The features which led to the dominance of vascular plants are: (i) Development of deep roots with the ability to penetrate the soil. (ii) Development of water-proofing material eg. cutin on aerial surfaces, to reduce water loss through evaporation. (iii) Development of strong woody material anchor and support above-ground structures.
