The nuclear envelope is made up of two parallel membranes that are 10-50 nm thick. The nuclear pores are tiny pores generated by the fusing of two membranes in the outer membrane. These pores are the conduits via which RNA and protein molecules travel between the nucleus and the cytoplasm in both directions.
