Briefly explain the chemiosmotic hypothesis?
The mechanism of ATP synthesis in chloroplasts was explained by the chemiosmotic hypothesis. ATP generation in photosynthesis is tied to the formation of a proton gradient across a membrane. These are thylakoids membranes. The proton accumulation is toward the membrane's interior (in the lumen). The mechanisms that happen during electron activation and transit to establish the steps that lead to the formation of a proton gradient. The establishment of a proton gradient is linked to the synthesis of ATP.
