Nitrogen dioxide causes bronchitis in humans and causes respiratory difficulties. It causes acid rain and produces photochemical smog. Nitrogen oxides are damaging to nylon, rayon, and cotton fibres, as well as causing rubber fractures. They also react with ozone ( O2O2 ) in the atmosphere, lowering the density of ozone.
