When alkanes are heated, the C-C bonds rather than the C-H bonds break. Give a reason.

The C-C connection instead of the C-H bond breaks when the alkanes are warmed up because the bond C-C has a lower energy bond ( Δ H = 83 Kcal/ mole ) than the bond C-H ( Δ H = 99 Kcal/ mole  mole).
