Explanation In some plants like ginger and potato, stems remain underground. Stem remain underground to carry out function like food storage and vegetative reproduction. Example: Potatoes are modified form of underground stem. A potato tuber has nodes, internodes, buds and leaves. The presence of an apical bud confirms that it is a stem.
