Explanation The arrangement of the leaves around the stem or branch of a plant is called Phyllotaxy. The main purpose of this arrangement is to ensure that the plant receives maximum amount of sunlight to perform it’s functions. There are three main types of phyllotaxy- Alternate or Spiral- refers to the type of arrangement in which a single leaf arises from each node in an alternate manner. This forms a spiral of leaves around the stem. Example- Hibiscus (China Rose), Peepal. Opposite – refers to the type of arrangemen in which two leaves arise from two different nodes opposite to each other. Example- Tulsi Whorled- refers to the type of arrangement in which more than two leaves arise from a single node. Example- Alstonia Final Answer Phyllotaxy is the arrangement of the leaves around the stem. This ensures that the leaves gets maximum amount of sunlight to carry out it’s functions. There are three different types of arrangements of phyllotaxy- Alternate or spiral Opposite Whorled
