Sticky breakdown products of plant cell walls are usually referred to as gum. It is a polysaccharide of natural origin exuding from wounds in the bark. It is highly viscous even at low concentrations. Gums are generally water soluble. While fevicol is rubber based synthetic adhesive made up of polymers which are dissolved in solvents. Solvent evaporates when the adhesive is exposed and results into hardening of the adhesive. Fevicol is made up of poly vinyl alcohol, a synthetic polymer. Final Answer Gums are colloidal exudates of plant which are heteropolysaccharide in nature. And yes fevicol is different than gums as it is a synthetic rubber based adhesive.
