Explanation Basically, very pure water is considered to be at 0 potential at a standard temperature. The addition of the more negatively charged particles or solute decreases the water potential. But, increase in the pressure may increase the potential of the water. It will move from one place to the other from the higher water potential to the lower. For example: Water that has a dissolved salt, as sea salt. These have Negatively charged water molecules will proceed from the origin of pure water to more less charged water potential of the solution. Final Answer Thus, the potential of the water of a cell can be affected by either by pressure or the solute.
