Explain the following processes: (a) Polarisation of the membrane of a nerve fibre
Polarization occurs when the resting potential of the membrane changes and becomes polarized. During the resting period, the concentration of K+ ions is more whereas the concentration of Na+ found is low in comparison in the axoplasm resulting in a faster movement of K+ ions from inside to outside in comparison to Na+ ions and the membrane becomes positively charged outside and negatively charged inside.
