Distinguish between: (c) aqueous humor and vitreous humor
Aqueous humor Secreted by the ciliary processes and consists of diffusible plasma contents Generated, drained, and replenished throughout an individual’s lifetime. Functions - nourishes and protects the lens and cornea, preserves the eye (ocular) pressure, transports nutrients, maintains eye shape. Obstruction of aqueous humor might increase eye pressure and damage the retina Vitreous humor Secreted by the non-ciliary bodies and retina and made up of water, hyaluronic acid, collagen fibers The vitreous humor generated is not replenished Its volume is more than that of the aqueous humor Functions - protects the eye, maintains eye pressure and shape of the eyeball, aids in focusing light on the retina
