The ovule comprises the following: Funicle- This stalk-like part marks the point of attachment of the ovule to the ovary’s placenta. Hilum- This structure marks the point of attachment of the ovule to the funicle. Integuments- The protective coverings around the ovule are called integuments. They are distinguished into outer integument and inner integument. Micropyle- It is a narrow pore that is formed at the point where the integuments are absent. The micropylar end serves as the site for the entry of the pollen tube. Nucellus- It is a mass of cells which contains the embryo sac. It provides nutrition to the developing embryo. Embryo sac- It contains the ovum. The polar nuclei fuse with the ovum in the embryo sac. Chalaza- This is opposite to the micropyle and forms the integument.
