The head of the sperm is elongated and contains a haploid nucleus. The top portion of the head is topped by a cap-shaped acrosome. The acrosome contains enzymes which support the sperm’s fertilization with the ovum. The middle piece of the sperm contains mitochondria which provide energy to facilitate the sperm’s motility. The sperm’s tail helps it to swim and to reach up to the egg cell.
