Draw a labelled diagram of a section through ovary
The ovaries are paired organs present on either side of the lower abdomen. It produces eggs or ovum. Each of the two ovaries is of white colour and is located in the ovarian fossa. Each ovary is covered with layer of simple cuboidal to columnar shaped mesothelum. The ovarian stroma is divided into two zones: a cortex and a medulla. The medulla is made of dense connective tissue called the tunica albuginea. The sides of ovaries closest to the fallopian tube are connected to it by a ligament: infundibulopelvic ligament whereas the other sides are pointed downwards and are attached to the uterus through the ovarian ligament. The ovarian follicles consist of cumulus oophorous, membrane granulosa, corona radiate, zona pellucida and primary oocyte. The cortex consists of corpus luteum which is a derivative of the follicles. The ovary also serves as an endocrine gland as it secretes hormones.
