'Stability of a crystal is reflected in themagnitude of its melting point'. Comment. Collect melting points of solid water, ethyl alcohol, diethyl ether and methane from a data book. What can you say about the intermolecular forces between these molecules?

Higher the melting factor, more is the intermolecular pressure of enchantment and extra is the stability. A substance with better melting factor is extra solid than a substance with decrease melting factor. The melting factors of the given materials are: Solid water → 273 K Ethyl alcohol → 158.eight K Diethyl ether → 156.eighty five K Methane → 89.34 K Now, on staring at the values of the melting factors, it could be stated that some of the given materials, the intermolecular pressure in strong water is the most powerful and that during methane is the weakest.
