This is because Eucalyptus helps meet increasing wood demands from dwindling natural forests, supplying local communities and industry alike. Euca lyptus first became a component of India’s social forestry program in the 1970s. With financial assistance from the World Bank, large tracts of forest lands, farms, and degraded land in the Indian states of Karnataka, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana were planted with eucalyptus.
