Absolute density (d) is the mass of any substance per unit volume of a material. It is usually expressed in grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm3) or pounds per cubic inch (lb/in3) (Table 1.5). Specific gravity (s.g.) is the ratio of the mass in air of a given volume compared to the mass of the same volume of water.
