At a certain stage of their lives, their bodies develop a long, rod-like structure called the notochord. There are three subphyla: - (i) Hemichordata (Half chordate) Example: - Balanoglossus (ii) Urochordata (Tail cord) Example: - Salpa & Herdmania (iii) Cephalochordata (Head cord) Example: - Amphioxus
