A selectable marker is used in the section of recombinants on the basis of their ability to produce color in presence of chromogenic substrate. How is it advantageous to overuse antibiotic-resistant genes as a selectable marker?

The use of antibiotic-resistant genes as a selectable marker is more beneficial because due to the inactivation of antibiotics the selection of recombinants requires simultaneous plating on two plates that are having different antibiotics.
