Sodium chloride is hard but sodium metal is soft why?

Due to the fact that sodium has only one valence electron, there is a weak metallic link. As a result, sodium metal is a brittle substance. Because the chlorine atom has received an electron from the sodium atom, sodium chloride exists in crystal form.
