When 1 mole of NaCl is added to 1 liter water, the boiling point increases? When 1 mole of CH3OH is added to 1 liter water, the boiling point decreases? Suggest reasons.
When NaCl (non – volatile solute) is added to water then, the vapor pressure of the solution is lowered increasing the boiling point. Whereas, CH3OH is more volatile than water i.e., has more vapor pressure than that of water decreasing the boiling point.
