Copper (I) compounds undergo disproportionation. Write the chemical equation for the reaction involved and give a reason.
The chemistry of copper(I) is restricted by a reaction that happens in a solution involving simple copper(I) ions. This is an excellent illustration of disproportionation, which occurs when something oxidises and then reduces itself. Copper(I) ions in solution are disproportionately converted to copper(II) ions and a copper precipitate.
