Homoleptic complexes are those in which only one kind of ligand is bound to the central metal ion. Example: [Co(NH3 )6 ]3+ . Heteroleptic complexes are those in which different types of ligands are bound to the central metal ion. Example: [Co(NH3 )4 Cl2 ]+
