Give one chemical test to distinguish between the following pairs of compounds: Methylamine and dimethylamine
Methylamine and dimethylamine can be distinguished by carbylamines test: Carbylamine test: Aliphatic and aromatic primary amines create foul-smelling isocyanides or carbylamines when heated with chloroform and ethanolic potassium hydroxide. The Carbylamine test is positive for methylamine (an aliphatic primary amine), but not for dimethylamine.
