Which endocrine gland is controlled by the secretion of other endocrine glands?
The thyroid gland is the only endocrine gland that is controlled by the secretion of another endocrine gland. It stores its secretary product in large quantity. Homopothalamus, in response to some external stimulus, produces a thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) for the secretion of the thyrotrophic hormone. The thyrotropin-releasing hormone stimulates the anterior pituitary lobe to secrete thyrotrophic hormone. The latter, in turn, stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroxine, thereby restoring the normal blood- thyroxine level.
