Explain accelerated eutrophication. Mention any two consequences of this phenomenon.
Accelerated eutrophication: The natural aging of a lake by the biological enrichment of its water is called eutrophication. However, if pollutants from man’s activities like effluents from industries and homes radically accelerate the aging process, it is called accelerated cultural eutrophication. Consequences: There is excess growth of algae causing algal bloom that gives an unpleasant odor. There is a shortage of oxygen which causes the death of the fauna of the water body. Ultimately death of the lake occurs.
