Ultraviolet-B radiations: These are high energetic UV-radiations that are mostly blocked by the ozonosphere located in the stratosphere of the atmosphere. But due to the increased production of ozone-depleting substances (ODS) like CFCs, halons, etc., the ozone shield is becoming thinner and thinner. This is increasing the amount of UV-B radiations reaching the earth’s surface. These radiations are carcinogenic. The cornea absorbs UV-B radiation. High dose of UV-B causes inflammation of the cornea called snow blindness cataract. Exposure may permanently damage the cornea.
