Baculoviruses kill insects and other arthropods, hence they are used as biocontrol agents especially Nucleopolyhedrovirus. Reasons for their use: These viruses are species-specific and have narrow spectrum insecticidal applications. They do not harm non-target organisms like other harmless insects, birds, animals, etc. It is very useful in integrated pest management programs or treatment of ecologically sensitive areas.
