Why is tobacco smoking associated with rising in blood pressure and emphysema? Explain
Nicotine, an alkaloid present in tobacco, stimulates the adrenal gland to release adrenaline and nor-adrenaline into blood circulation. Both these hormones increase blood pressure and heart rate. Smoking causes emphysema. Tobacco smoke damages the air sacs (alveoli) of the lungs. Thus surface area for exchange of gases becomes less and disorder emphysema is caused.
